Hailey Thomas is a proud fifth-generation Memphian, educator, and community advocate who has dedicated her life to ensuring every child has access to an excellent education.

Hailey’s parents immigrated to this country with no more than an eighth-grade education. Through the support of dedicated teachers and school staff, Hailey and her four siblings not only graduated but went on to attend college. This experience shaped her belief that every child deserves the same opportunity to succeed.

Growing up, Hailey learned what it means to persevere. At age 13, she was diagnosed with epilepsy — but instead of allowing it to hold her back, she worked even harder to stay focused and exceed expectations. She read more books, solved puzzles, watched documentaries, and leaned on her love of learning to keep her mind sharp. Despite the challenges she faced, she graduated high school as salutatorian.

Her journey of defying the odds continued. Hailey earned her bachelor’s degree and later completed a Master’s degree at 25, despite the obstacles that came with managing a disability. These experiences fuel her work today and ground her belief that no child’s potential should be underestimated.

As a classroom teacher, Hailey has seen firsthand the difference that supportive adults, strong resources, and safe learning environments make in a child's life. She is committed to building schools where students are celebrated, teachers are empowered, and families feel heard.
